October 01, 2009:  Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Update Kicks Off
Author: Melissa Gall

At their September 17, 2009 meeting, The Regional Partners Board of Directors unanimously directed the Executive Director to begin the work necessary to replace the region's outdated 2005 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) with one that:

  • Reflects the current and unique economic state of the Portland-Vancouver region;
  • Establishes regional economic development goals and strategies that provide a comprehensive regional framework from which future economic development can occur; and
  • Positions both the Portland-Vancouver Regional Partners Council for Economic Development and its member organizations for economic development planning and project funding.

Work is already underway to establish the CEDS Strategy Committee which is expected to be in place by the middle of November 2009.  Funding for the regional CEDS update comes from the Economic Development Administration and their recent award to Regional Partners of a $75,000 planning grant and matching funding and in-kind contributions from member organizations.
